Adult cell phone addicts won't be charged with "driving while texting"- at least for now. On Tuesday, the House Transportation Committee referred a bill to ban sending text messages while driving to the Joint Commission on Technology and Science. The decision was made by voice vote, and it effectively kills the bill for the 2008 General Assembly session.
The VCU emergency warning siren sounded on Monroe Park Campus Tuesday night for less than a minute. The siren also was rumored to have sounded Wednesday morning, however, VCU authorities have not yet confirmed the second siren blast. The sirens are supposed to alert students on VCU's Monroe Park and MCV campuses in the case of an emergency.
During the past 16 years, VCU's School of Social Work has earned a place among the best - the school is ranked 14th in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. But the man some say spearheaded this progress, School of Social Work Dean Frank Baskind, will be relinquishing his deanship in June to move on to other top positions at VCU.
When Jacob Leach began attending VCU three-and-a-half years ago to pursue a Ph.D. in engineering, his fellow students encouraged him to participate in the VCU Toastmasters Club. The Toastmasters Club looked like fun to Leach, and he joined to reduce the feeling of intimidation that arises during public speaking.
