A master plan for Monroe Park will be taken to Richmond's Urban Design Committee this month for final review, revitalizing the park's layout, said Alice McGuire Massie, Monroe Park advisory council president. The vision, Massie said, aims to make the park a safe place, inviting place.
Next week, while in the midst of exams and final projects, students might notice some hard-hitting posters around campus. As part of the RISE-NOW campaign, the posters and attached pamphlets work to raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault and educate the community about the resources available for people who have experienced such crimes.
As co-author of a textbook that has been adopted by four universities around the country since its release in early November, Deborah Wenger is in charge as of ensuring VCU's mass communications students are equipped to excel after graduation. Wenger, associate professor of convergence and news media, said she has spent the past couple of semesters producing the textbook, titled "Advancing the Story: Broadcast Journalism in a Multimedia World," designed to prepare students for convergence, or the merging of mass media, in America's newsrooms.
The James Branch Cabell Library will be open 24 hours a day, five days a week until Dec. 18 to help students prepare for exams. The extended library hours are called Library Lite All Nite. "Library Lite All Nite was established in the spring 2005 semester and has repeated each spring and fall semester since that time," said Donna Coghill, director of marketing and public relations at VCU libraries.
