Emergency text registration might be required for students

With the majority of students ignoring administration pleas to sign up for the emergency text-messaging system, school officials are considering making participation mandatory, said Pamela Lepley, director of University News Services. The text-messaging system is meant to be the primary means of communication with students, faculty and staff about life-threatening emergencies and inclement weather.

Carver promise aims to unite VCU, community, improve education

Within the brightly colored walls of Carver Elementary School sit two nondescript rooms. To outsiders, they might look like just a set of offices. But for Carver children, this is a place where dreams are promised. These are the offices of Carver Promise, a project for first-, second- and third-graders.

Kiss a Queer Day seeks to spread awareness, acceptance

Walking through the University Student Commons last week might have gotten you kissed by a queer. Kiss a Queer Day is one of several events coordinated by student group Queer Action as part of National Coming Out Week, which began Oct. 11. The committee set up a booth in the Commons to raise awareness for VCU's gay and lesbian community.
