Dwindling audiences end late-night flicks at Byrd

Death of a Byrd Theatre tradition

The smell of butter and popcorn no longer fills the entrance of the Byrd Theatre on late Saturday nights. For the past five years, the historic Byrd Theatre had featured a classic film every Saturday night at midnight. Film fans flocked to the Byrd to see movies, such as "The Goonies," "The Princess Bride" and "Labyrinth.

No more maids Hong Kong's Canto-pop star Jacky Cheung was banned from hiring maids from the Philippines after firing 21 in three years. Cheung and his wife, former actress May Lo, have been blacklisted as "sub-standard employers." The Philippine consulate in Hong Kong maintains a list of no-good employers.

Aging Rockers prove surprisingly energetic

Say what you will about Bob Dylan - at 66, the man still knows how to rock. Dylan is a musical icon, a living legend. He's one of the few socially conscious folk-rock troubadours to survive the '60s. And we all should be very thankful he did. Dylan filled Charlottesville's John Paul Jones Arena Thursday with his blues- and country-infused brand of classic rock 'n' roll.
